Painting of whitetail buck running through water

Swamp Runner

11" x 14" Oil On Panel

Deer won't hesitate to travel through wet areas as an escape route or simply to access a more secluded bedding area. This buck has sensed danger and is making a swift escape while putting a body of water between him and his would-be assailant for added sucurity.

Painting of whitetail buck in moonlight

Nocturnal

11" x 14" Oil On Panel

The best way for a deer to survive hunting season is simply not moving around during daylight hours. This mature buck is hitting a scrape in the moonlight. If a hunter sees the freshly pawed-up dirt in the morning, he might feel inclined to hunt this location in the evening. Likely not encountering this buck at all.

Painting of whitetail buck checking scrape

Community Check-Up

14" x 18" Oil On Panel

It's early season in Ohio and this buck just shifted from his summer range, moving into the area he frequents throughout October and into the rut. His first stop is this community scrape to get a bead on the local deer population and any bucks that might challenge his dominance in the coming months.
